To use positive and negative imperatives when giving orders and instructions. Teaching methods

Situational method, practice method Language Points

Words: pull, brush, frighten, fur

Phrases: fish tank, brush her fur, pull her tail, give a shower, keep her warm, for some time, and chase the cat, at the table, too much Teaching Procedures: Step 1 Presentation

Get the students to talk about what we should do and what we should not do in class to present the imperatives.

Students discuss them warmly to think of good ideas. Teacher draws a conclusion what the imperatives are.

Get students to do Part A1 (P94) in pairs to learn how to look after pets. Then check the answers with the whole class.

Answers: a. frighten b. clean c. take d. give e. bark f. Brush. Read the sentences aloud and then give instructions randomly by pointing at the pictures.

The purpose of it: according to the given pictures, find out the correct verbs in the box. Step 3 Task

Get students to give correct instructions according to situational information. Situation 1

Tom gets up late every day. So he can’t catch the first bus. Today, he is late again. What do you want to say to him? Situation 2

Linda’s friend Lucy has to go abroad for study, but her mother is ill. What will she say to Linda? Situation 3

Jimmy isn’t good at Maths, he gets low marks in the exam. Peter is laughing at him. What do you want to say to Peter? Situation 4

In the library, Simon meets his friends. They are excited to talk to each other loudly. What do you want to say to them?

The purpose of it:to train students to make up imperatives according to the different situationa. Step 4 Practice

Rearrange the words to make sentences, according to the Part A2 on Page 99. The purpose of it: to consolidate what students have learned. Step 5 A Class Test
